Problem

Backup of QNAP NAS with Firmware 4.5.1.1480  fails with Access Denied

Issue started to be seen after upgrade of the QNAP NAS Firmware to version 4.5.1.1480

This error does not prevent the directory's contents from being successfully backed up.
The Backup job fails but all the data is backed up as expected and can be restored.

 

Error Message


JOB LOG:

Final error: 0xe0008488 - Access is denied.
Final error category: Security Errors

Access denied to directory \.
Error reading security data stream.


SGMON:

ERROR: recieved TBE messasge: 0xE0008488 while processing backup set: '\\<StorageName>\<DirectoryName>
 

Solution

This problem does not prevent the directory's contents from being successfully backed up.
The Backup job fails but all the data is backed up as expected and can be restored.

This issue is resolved in the latest QNAP Firmware version 4.5.1.1540 (released on January 7th 2021).
