VMware virtual machine backup using nbd/nbdssl transport is failing with NetBackup status code 11

Problem

• VMware backups is failing with Error 11.Detail Status will show error "status: 11: system call failed"
• The same issue can throw error 6,12,41 and 158 too at detail status.
• It affect Windows,Linux  and other Virtual machines.
• Issue happen with nbd/nbdssl transport only.
• This is applicable to NetBackup version 8.2 only.It means that VMware Backup Host Server should be at NetBackup version '8.2'.

Cause

This is a known issue affecting VMware VDDK 6.7.x and later versions.

• VDDK 6.7.0 Build 8173251 
• VDDK 6.7.1 Build 10362358 
• VDDK 6.7.2 Build 13015725

This issue is fixed in VMware VDDK '6.7 Update 3'.

By Default, NetBackup 8.2 has binaries of VMware vddk '6.7.2'.

Solution

Veritas Engineering  has created Emergency Engineering Binary to upgrade VMware vddk version to 6.7 update 3

The EEB needs to be install at backup host server.It is available as hotfix.
