Problem

When shares are nested within other shares and scanned by Data Insight there is a possibility of counting the nested share independently of the parent share even though it is contained within the parent share.

Error Message

The count will be higher than expected potentially exceeding the limit of the space within the file system

Cause

Each Monitored Share in Data Insight is independent of other shares on a filer from a Data insight perspective.  Nested shares can add to the total accumulated size of the parent share

Solution

Nested shares should be excluded from monitoring in Data Insight

The nested share could be included in the folders under the parent share selected as the data-set for reporting rather than selecting the parent share although files within the parent share may not be counted

If the entire filer is selected then all shares including the nested shares will be displayed and the cumulative totals will have to be manually considered as above.

When selecting the data in a report the Admin can filter to eliminate the repeated data by selecting the shares or folders and files desired.

In that way a data set can be selected that will represent the true storage without the multiple counts for any content shared out greater than one times.
