Problem

Usage data is not reported or updated on the NetBackup web user interface or Smart Meter because the usage data file (UsageData_Sanitized.out file or a file in the <GUID>-netbackup_capacity-utilization_YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.json format) is not generated or updated in the following folder:

Windows: <install dir>\Veritas\NetBackup\var\global\incremental
Linux: /usr/openv/var/global/incremental

Cause

The likely reason that the usage file is not generated or updated after the default or configured frequency of the nbdeployutil run is because of the following scenario:

If there are multiple policies of the same type are configured for a client, then nbdeployutil tries to identify the overlap between the policies. During the overlap detection phase, nbdeployutil might require high memory depending on:

  • Number of backup selections in the policy
  • The frequency of full backups
  • Number of the same type of policies defined for the client

The high memory requirement causes the nbdeployutil to stop processing and does not generate or update the usage file.
