Problem

Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) managed folder is not supported for NetBackup catalog storage and replication.

Error Message

Not Applicable.

Cause

Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) is an optional service within Microsoft File Services role that allows folders to be replicated across multiple Windows Servers. A good use case for this service is remote office that has slow network link to the main office. In this scenario, files can be replicated during off-peak period and remote users can access the replicated files locally.

DFSR technology, however, does not guarantee write-ordered consistency of the files being replicated and is therefore not supported for NetBackup catalog replication.

Please note that NetBackup does not support storing catalog information on DFSR-managed folders either, due to DFSR's cache and replication mechanism interfering with catalog backup and recovery process.

Solution

More information on conditional support for NetBackup catalog replication can be found in the NetBackup Highly Available Environments Administrator's Guide. You may use replication at your sole risk and Veritas shall have no liability for any failure(s) in relation to the installation, configuration, usage, and monitoring of the employed replication solution.
