This video shows how to use the advanced search to build queries that contain multiple search criteria in Enterprise Vault Search.
Note: Embedded video player confirmed working in Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer
As noted, this video shows how to use advanced search to build queries that contain multiple search criteria in Enterprise Vault Search 12.3 and later. The same process is used in all versions of Enterprise Vault Search.
Note that multiple search criteria lines are connected with the logical AND operation. A criteria selection field can only be used 1 time in the criteria specifications in an Advanced search. For example, the 'Content' criteria can only be selected 1 time. If multiple terms are entered into the criteria data field, they are processed within that field based on the selection of the Search Operator field as follows for email messages:
contains all of This is the logical AND operation that requires all terms in the data field to be present in the search results.
contains any of This is the logical OR operation that allows any of the terms in the data field to be present in the search results.
contains phrase This is specified all terms in the data field are to be considered as a phrase and the search results must contain the either phrase.
does not contain This is the exclusion option that requires the search results to not include any of the terms in the data field.
If a need exists to use multiple instances of the same criteria field, the logic to be used must be included in the one criteria field connector or run in a Simple search with the specific logical operator separating the terms. For example, if the content of a message must contain both "Investment Account" and "Retirement Fund", the criteria in a Simple Search would be:
cont:"Investment Account" AND cont:"Retirement Fund"
whereas an Advanced Search would have been contained in the Contents field with the contains all of operation and the criteria field would be:
"Investment Account" "Retirement Fund"
There are other fields that are usable in an advanced search. Click the drop-down menu in the left-hand field to see all of the options that are available:
- For the Archive
- Folder

- For the Email

- Subject or Content

- All Recipients (To, Cc & Bcc)
- To

Each option allows logic selections in the middle field. Click the drop-down in this field to see the listing of options.
Clicking on the plus (+) to the right of the line will add a new criteria line while clicking the minus (-) will remove a criteria line.
