Cause

These errors occur when an item from an archive has been deleted and the shortcut remains in the users Exchange mailbox. This shortcut is now considered "Orphaned" and can be deleted.

Solution

The Enterprise Vault shortcut should be deleted from the mailbox as the previously archived item is no longer available for retrieval. In versions prior to EV 7.0, the shortcuts will have to be manually removed from the Exchange mailbox.  In versions 7.0 and higher, there is a feature called Delete Orphaned Shortcuts.

Enabling Shortcut Deletion within the EV Vault Administration Console (VAC):

  1. Open the VAC on the applicable EV server.
  2. Expand Policies | Exchange | Mailbox.
  3. Double-Click the appropriate policy in the right pane and choose Shortcut Deletion tab.
  4. Select the option Delete Orphaned Shortcuts.

Note: Shortcut deletion (if enabled) will complete each time the archiving task successfully runs against a mailbox.
