Problem

How to change IP address VVR service group in global cluster in Veritas Storage Foundation HA for Windows. GCO-Global Cluster Option.

Solution

This procedure applies to global clusters. The standard procedure for changing an IP address in VVR (Veritas Volume Replicator), when VVR is not clustered, can be found here:   https://www.veritas.com/docs/000016308

Precautions
Before following this procedure, take the following precautionary steps:

1. Freeze any service groups that depend on the VVR service group. While this procedure should not cause any faults, freezing the application groups will prevent an unexpected fault from causing an unnecessary failover to occur.

Note: Do not freeze the actual VVR group. This can be either a temporary or a persistent freeze.

2. Create a checkpoint. The procedure for creating a checkpoint can be found here:   https://www.veritas.com/docs/000088746 . A checkpoint is not required to complete this procedure. However, if there is a problem restarting replication, having a valid checkpoint may avert the need for a full resynchronization.

Procedure
1. From Cluster Explorer, right-click on the replication service group. Click Add Resource.
2. At Resource name:, enter a name for the new IP resource.
3. At Resource Type:, select IP.
4. Enter values for the following attributes:

Address

SubnetMask

MACAddress

Note: The MACAddress attribute is usually specified on a "per system" basis to reflect that each node has a different NIC with a different MAC address.

5. Uncheck Critical and click OK.
6. From the top of the right pane, click Resources. Notice that the new resource has appeared.
7. Right-click on the new IP resource. Select Online > Node.
8. When the Question dialog box appears, click Yes.
9. The new IP address should now be bound to the NIC. Use a network utility like Ping to ensure that the IP address is available.
10. Double-click on the VvrRvg resource to open Properties View.
11. Update the IPResName attribute to match the name of the new IP resource.
12. Right-click on the secondary RVG. Click Change Replication Settings....
13. Change the fields to reflect the value of the new IP address and click OK.

Note: Be careful to update the correct site when making this change. Each site has a separate IP.

14. From Cluster Explorer, click Link.
15. Click the VvrRvg resource. A dependency line should appear.
16. Click the new IP resource.
17. At the Confirmation dialog box, click Yes. The VvrRvg resource should now be the parent resource of the new IP resource.
18. Click the new IP resource. Another dependency line should appear.
19. Click the NIC resource. The new IP resource should now be the parent resource of the NIC resource.
20. Right-click on the dependency line that connects the VvrRvg resource to the old IP resource. Click Unlink....
21. At the Question dialog box, click Yes. The resource will rearrange themselves to reflect the new configuration.
22. Right-click on the dependency line that connects the old IP resource to the NIC resource. Click Unlink....
23. At the Question dialog box, click Yes. The old IP resource is now isolated.
24. Right-click on the new IP resource. Select Critical.
25. Unfreeze any service groups that were frozen before starting this procedure.

Note: The remaining steps are optional. They concern deleting the old IP resource.

26. Bring the old IP resource offline.
27. Right-click on the old IP resource. Click Delete.
28. At the Question dialog box, click Yes. The old IP resource is now deleted.
