Backup Exec was unable to initialize and communicate with the device \\.MediumChanger (Access is denied)
Problem
Library and Tape drives are online and backups are working, but the following error is received when starting services
Device Manager shows two Medium Changers
"Backup Exec was unable to initialize and communicate with the device \\.MediumChangerX [HW XXXXXX] (Access is denied). "
Error Message
UMI Code: V-275-1017
Backup Exec was unable to initialize and communicate with the device \\.MediumChangerX [HW XXXXXX] (Access is denied).
Cause
The error displayed and Device Manager showing two Medium Changers for one Library is due to the fact that within the Library settings both SAS/SCSI tape drive connections are set to use Control Paths. Only one connection can manage the library.
Solution
- Open the Web Console for the tape library.
- Find the tape drive configuration.
- Verify that only one tape drive has the Control Path option enabled to manage the Tape Library.
- If Option 1 does not work, contact the hardware provider.
