Description
How to install a cleaning tape to be used by NetBackup.
- In the Media Manager GUI (xvmadm) select:
- Actions > New > Single Volume
- In the New Volume window select:
- Media Type: DLT Cleaning Tape
- Robot Type: TLD - Tape Library DLT
- Then press OK.
- Note: Verify "Robot Type" in "Device Management"
- The Creating Robotic Volume window will be displayed. In this window, Media Type and Robot Type will be displayed.
- Set the following attributes:
- Media ID - for example: CLN001 (or the barcode of the cleaning tape)
- Description - for example: Cleaning Tape
- Cleaning Count - usually a maximum of twenty (20) or what is specified by the cleaning cartridge manufacturer
- Slot Number - select a free slot in the robot to store the tape.
- Note: Find a free slot by using Robots > Inventory > Show Robot Contents
- Robot Control Host - name of the host that provides robotic control
- Robot Number - select from the of list configured robots
- Inject Via Mail slot - it's usually a good idea to let NBU add media to the robot through the mail slot, select yes and make sure the tape is placed in the CAP. Alternatively the tape can be manually added to the robot but ensure that the media is placed in the slot specified in the slot number field above.
- Set the following attributes:
- Click OK. The cleaning tape will be added to the robot and the Media Manager database and should be displayed in the Media Manager window.
- The next step in the process is to assign a drive cleaning policy to each of the drives configured within the robot. This is done using the Device Management window, xdevadm.
- In the Device Management window select:
- Drives > Drive Cleaning
- This opens the drive cleaning window.
- Select:
- Action > Change Cleaning Frequency to open the Change Cleaning Frequency.
- Specify the drive index number and the cleaning frequency. For example, drive index one should be cleaned every 20 hours.
Note: Please seek the advice of the hardware vendor for their recommendations on drive cleaning frequency.
