Problem

Event ID 2776 occurs when attempting to enable a mailbox for archiving.

Error Message

The following will be seen in a Dtrace of the AgentClientBroker process on the EV server.   For more information on Dtrace please refer to the link in Related articles.

(AgentClientBroker) <9696> EV:M CArchivingAgentQueue::EnableMailbox - calling EnableMailboxUsingMAPISession
(AgentClientBroker) <9696> EV~E Event ID: 2776 An exception occurred in routine CArchivingAgentQueue::EnableMailbox(1) |
(AgentClientBroker) <9696> EV:M CArchivingAgentQueue::EnableMailbox - exiting due to exception

Cause

This issue can occur if the hidden message that Enterprise Vault (EV) writes to the mailbox is corrupt.  This message contains the configuration information for the EV client and needs to be accessed regularly.  It has been seen that when this occurs the message cannot be opened or deleted using a MAPI utility such as mfcmapi.exe from Microsoft.

Solution

To resolve the issue, the mailbox should be moved to another Storage Group in Exchange.  The corrupt message will not be moved to the new Storage Group with the mailbox.  The user can then be enabled in the new Storage Group or moved back to the original Storage Group and enabled.
