"Cannot retrieve backup job properties" is reported when trying to create backup job with System Recovery
Problem
When attempting to create a backup job through the local Veritas System Recovery (VSR) console the error message "Cannot retrieve backup job properties" is generated.
Error Message
Error E1AD7500: Cannot retrieve backup job properties.
The machine wide limit settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID 73E709EA-5D93-4B2E-BBB0-99B7938DA9E4 to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20).
Note: This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
Cause
There are more then one possible cause to this error during a backup job creation attempt, so at this time there is no one solution to resolve this issue. Please review the following suggested workarounds and related documents below. If the issue persists please contact Veritas Technical Support for further assistance.
Solution
1. Corrupt Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) which can be repaired by running the latest service pack for the operating system.
2. Modify DCOM configuration settings:
Verify the state of the wmiprvse.exe file:
a. Open windows explorer
b. Browse to \Windows\System32\wbem sub-folder.
c. Look through the contents of the folder, verify the following:
- wmiprvse.exe is listed
- That it does not have a zero byte count
- That is has not been modified recently (unless a windows patch has been recently applied).
a. Go to Start>Run, type dcomcnfg and press Enter.
b. Select Component Services.
c. Double click on Computers.
d. Right click on My Computer and go to Properties.
e. Click on the COM Security tab.
f. Under Launch and Activation Permissions select Edit Limits.
g. Check Allow for Local Launch.
h. Select OK and close Component Services.
