How to determine what version of the Enterprise Vault Client extensions are installed.

Problem

In order to use the full functionality of the Enterprise Vault User extensions, you must first ensure that the proper version of the software is installed and ensure that the associated Mailbox Policy is configured to enable full client functionality.
 

Solution

How to determine the version of Enterprise Vault User extensions installed.
 
1. Open the Registry Editor on the client.

2. Expand the tree to view the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Install
 
 
If located on a 64bit OS then everything is under a WOW6432Node key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Wow6432Node\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Install
 
3. Review the Version key, if the value ends in Msi the full version of the Enterprise Vault User extensions are installed. 

 

How to determine the version of the Enterprise Vault User extensions currently in use on a client.
 
1. Open Outlook click Help and About Enterprise Vault.

2. There are two versions of the User extensions. The full version will display dcom and the lite version will display http.
 

 
How to determine the Enterprise Vault User extensions the Exchange Mailbox Policy is set to use.
 
1. Open the Vault Administration Console.

2. Expand Policies and Exchange and click Desktop Policy.

3. Right-click the Desktop Policy and click Properties.

4. Click the Advanced tab, select Outlook for list settings from, then go to the value for the Outlook Add-in behavior, this determines the user extensions that are used. 
 
Version 8.0 and 9.0:
Normal (dcom)
HTTP- only (Http)
 
Version 10 and above:
Full client (dcom)
Lite client (http)
