Problem

How to perform a redirected file system restore in Backup Exec. This article applies to plain directories and files.

Solution

Redirected restore: To restore files to a location other than the original location that was backed up from.
Files can be redirected to an alternate drive on the same machine, or to a different machine, and in some cases from one operating system version to another.

To restore files to a location other then where they were originally backed up from, do the following:
  1. Select the Server to be restored in the Backup and Restore tab.
  1. Click Restore.
  1. Select " Files, folder, or volumes" and click Next.
  1. Select " File and folder backups from a backup set" and click Next.
  1. Choose the Files and Folders or backup set which needs to be restored and click Next.

  1. Choose " To a different location" and click on " Browse" to choose the path where these files and folders need to be restored

  1. Choose appropriate options on subsequent screens and click Finish to run the job.
