Problem

It can be difficult and tricky to manually enter the paths of individual DFSR Replicated Folders into a policies backup selections.   The path is long and complicated.  A single type-o or additional 'space' character at the end of the line will cause the job to fail.

This article describes a method by which the DFSR Replicated Folder paths can be added reliably without type-o's.

Solution

On the Client housing DFSR Replicated Folders

1. Open Backup Archive and Restore (using Run as Administrator) and 'Select for Backup'

2. Drill into Shadow Copy Components > User Data > Distributed File System Replication > DfsReplicatedFolders  so the names of the Replicated Folders are displayed

3. Rt-Click on the Replicated Folder you want to add to the Backup Selection and select 'Add to Exclude List'

4. Repeat Step 3 for all Replicated Folders you want backed up

5. Navigate to File > NetBackup Client Properties

6. Select the 'Exclude List' tab - from here, you can see all of the DFSR Replicated Folder paths you selected in Step 3

7. Click on the first path to select it

8. Once it has been selected, it will appear in the 'Exclude File' field

9. Click in the 'Exclude File' field and highlight the entire line - press Ctrl+c to copy the contents to the OS clipboard

10. Open Notepad and press Ctrl+v to paste the line into the document

11. Repeat Step 10 for all Replicated Folder paths

12. 'Remove' each Replicated Folder from the Exclude List and click OK

13. Use the Notepad list of Replicated Folder paths to Copy / Paste entries into the Backup Selections of the desired Policy
