Does NetBackup support backups of Microsoft BitLocker encrypted drives?

Customers are concerned that Microsoft Windows BitLocker will interfere or conflict with Veritas NetBackup.

Solution

For file system backups, NetBackup does support the use of Microsoft BitLocker. However, the BitLocker encrypted drives need to be in an unlocked state prior to backup.

For file system backups, BitLocker was designed by Microsoft to be invisible to an application. Files which are written to disk are intercepted at a low level and automatically encrypted. When the file data is read, the opposite occurs. There is nothing that is needed to be done to NetBackup in order for this to happen.

With the system drives in a unlocked status we backup or restore the un-encrypted file data.
