Cause
This issue can occur when the password was changed for the Deduplication logon account, from the password created during creation of Deduplication folder. This could also happen due to termination of the Spoold.exe process during a Deduplication operation.
Solution
1. Confirm the user/logon account was used to create the deduplication folder as follows:
a. Open a command line window and go to the Backup Exec Program directory. By default this is located in the
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec directory.
b. Run the spauser -l command (that is a dash followed by a lower case letter L). This lists out the database users.
c. The output may list as below,
user 1 : Server or Domain name\username
user 2 : agent_5530XXXXX
user 3 : agent_3_106XXXX
user 4 : agent_2_109XXXX
user 5 : agent_2_200XXXX
user 6 : agent_2_200XXXX
user 7 : agent_2_139XXXX
d. Note the username associated with the first user (user 1)
2. Run the spauser -c -u "user associated with user 1"
3. Provide the old password and then the new password to match the password in the BE Logon Account.
4. Restart all backup exec services including pure disk services OR reboot.
This should bring the deduplication folder back online (Or make it online manually by right clicking on the deduplication storage folder). Run initial backup job
NOTE: The backup job may take sometime to show the byte count for the first time after the above changes made.
