Problem

Enterprise Vault (EV) for Exchange 2010 requires that a throttling policy be configured for the Vault  Service Account. The installation guide provides instructions to do this by running a script that is shipped on the EV media (SetEVThrottlingPolicy.ps1).

In some circumstances, it may be undesirable or problematic to create and assign this policy via the included script. In those situations, the following method can be used to create and assign the policy.

Solution

From the Exchange Management Shell, run the following commands:

PS > New-ThrottlingPolicy -name EVThrottlingPolicy

PS > Set-ThrottlingPolicy EVThrottlingPolicy -RCAMaxConcurrency $null -RCAPercentTimeInAD $null -RCAPercentTimeInCAS $null -RCAPercentTimeInMailboxRPC $null

PS > Set-Mailbox VaultServiceAccount -ThrottlingPolicy EVThrottlingPolicy

NoteEVThrottlingPolicy is the name assigned to the throttling policy in Exchange. This can be whatever you like. VaultServiceAccount is the username of the Vault Service Account in your environment.

Once you are finished, you can run the following command to verify that the policy was assigned to the account.

Get-ThrottlingPolicyAssociation -Identity VaultServiceAccount
