Problem

Test Run Job or credentials test for Sharepoint 2010 resources fails with error : "The logon account that was provided does not have the appropriate privileges to back up the SQL database".

Error Message

The job failed with the following error: "The logon account that was provided does not have the appropriate privileges to back up the SQL database . Either assign the appropriate privileges to this logon account, or use another logon account", or while running the resource credential test, it says "The logon account that was provided does not have the appropriate privileges to back up the SQL database on SQL server.

When a domain user with local administrative rights attempts a test run job/resource credential test for SharePoint 2010 resources, the job fails with the following message: "Status: UMI V-79-57344-39812 Error: e0009b84. The job failed with the following error: "The logon account that was provided does not have appropriate privileges to back up the SQL database. Either assign the appropriate privileges to this logon account, or use another logon account." 

Cause

The domain user account that was provided might not have appropriate privileges to backup the SharePoint server.

Solution

The user should be a part of local administrators group on the SQL server. It should also be a part of SQL server role "sysadmin ".
