Problem

Error "Insufficient disk space. Connection to the restore target has been lost. Operation canceled." occurs during a restore job using Backup Exec

Error Message

V-79-57344-33935

Insufficient disk space.
Connection to the restore target has been lost. Operation canceled.

Cause

If disk quotas are enabled, then a restore job may fail with the above error message even though the disk has sufficient free space.

Solution

To resolve this issue perform either of the following workarounds:

1. Disable Disk Quotas:

a. Open My Computer.

b. Right-click the disk volume for which disk quotas need to be disabled, and then click Properties.

c. In the Properties dialog box, click the Quota tab.

d. On the Quota tab, clear the Enable quota management check box, and then click OK. (Figure 2)

2. Or select the option " Restore all information except security for files and directories" under Restore Job Properties | General and run the restore again.

3. After the restore is complete, rerun the same restore job by selecting the option "Skip If File Exists"

Notes:

• To perform this procedure, the logon account used must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer.

• If the volume is not formatted with the NTFS file system, or if the user is not a member of the Administrators group, the Quota tab will not be displayed in the volume`s properties dialog box.
