Unable to perform EV operations when outlook 2016 connects to Exchange 2010 via RPC over HTTP/S profile

Problem

Outlook 2016 users can no longer use several Enterprise Vault functions when mailboxes reside on Exchange 2010, and Outlook is using RPC over http/https from an external network.

This functions include:

• Archive
• Restore
• Retrieve
• Search

 

Error Message

The following lines are captured in the workstation's Enterprise Vault client trace log:

[L]: DesktopCommon::UseRPCOverHTTP: Read PR_ROH_FLAGS: 0x0
[M]: Could not find PR_ROH_FLAGS
[H]: RPC over HTTP is not enabled (flags = 0)
[L]: ~DesktopCommon::UseRPCOverHTTP: Read PR_ROH_FLAGS: 0x40380

[H]:     Enterprise Vault Client XX.X.X.XXX (Light/Full functionality enabled)
[H]:     Microsoft Windows XX, XX Edition (build XXXXX 10240),

Cause

This issue occurs due to the changes in the Outlook 2016 architecture that does not create the MAPI attribute "ROHFLAGS_USE_ROH"  when Outlook 2016 connects to Exchange 2010 mailboxes. This change causes the Enterprise Vault client add-ins do not detect RPC over http,. which does not fail back on the 'RPC over http proxy URL' specified in the desktop policy.

Workaround

1. Install Outlook Spy > Open Outlook & select 'RPC-http' profile.
3. Click on the IMapiSession button on the Outlook Spy toolbar.
4. Click on OpenProfileSection.
5. Scroll down and select pbGlobalProfileSectionGuid.
6. Add property, Tag = PR_ROH_FLAGS,Value = 7, click OK. Restart outlook.
 

Solution

This issue has been addressed in the following release:
