Cause

McAfee has reported that their software is conflicting with Microsoft ADK operations which are being called by Bare Metal Restore. An additional cause can be installation of the Microsoft ADK into a non-default location.

Solution

In the first instance apply VSE 8.8 patch 5 for McAfee. More information can be found in this article:
https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB76867&cat=CORP_PRODUCTS&

If the issue persists even after applying the McAfee patch , then reboot the BMR boot server and try to manually unmount the invalid image. Once done the bmrsrtadm should now be able to create the 1st SRT at version 7.6.1.

Use the following example for checking for mounted images and unmounting them if necessary:

C:\>dism /Get-MountedWimInfo

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 6.1.7600.16385

Mounted images:

Mount Dir : c:\mountwim
Image File : C:\srt\net_WIN\net_win.wim
Image Index : 1
Mounted Read/Write : Yes
Status : Ok

The operation completed successfully.

To unmount:

dism /unmount-wim /mountdir:c:\mountwim /discard
