Solution

Overview:  
NetBackup Exchange mailboxbackups fail with a Status Code 41 (network connection timed out).

Troubleshooting:
One of the causes of a this problem isrelated to the amount of time it takes Exchange to prepare data for transfer tothe NetBackup Storage Unit. The setting which determines the amount of timeNetBackup will wait for Exchange is the Client Read Timeout value.  IfExchange takes longer than this timeout at any point during the backup, the jobwill fail.

Resolution:
Increase the Client Read Timeout value to 1800 on both the media server andthe client.  To do so, open the NetBackup Administration Console, and fromunder NetBackup Management, select HostProperties.  

For the Media Servers,  find the media serverused for Exchange backups.  Double click on the media server, and go to the Timeouts section (or the Universal Settings section for NetBackup4.5).  From there, change the Client Read Timeout value to 1800(Figure 1), and click OK.

For the client server, find the Exchange client under Clients,and double click on that server.  Go to the Timeouts section (or the Universal Settings section for NetBackup 4.5), and change the ClientRead Timeout value to 1800 (Figure 2), and click OK.

Close the NetBackup Console.
