Problem

When setting up a new VMware policy or modifying an existing one and using VMware queries as opposed to manual selection for client selection, if a custom attribute is used the test query will fail with "invalid filed string".

Error Message

 Invalid Field String

Cause

Setting "disableCustomAttributes" in virtualization.conf on Linux masters or the Windows Registry on Windows master on the master causes all servers to not be able to query custom attributes.

Solution

Linux backup hosts:

Remove the disableCustomAttributes string from the file:

/usr/openv/netbackup/virtualization.conf file.

Windows backup hosts:
Run the regedit utility

Remove the disableCustomAttributes dword value from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config\BACKUP\ key.

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

Applies To

 Netbackup 7.6.0.1 and later
