The presence of 4Gb Host Bus Adapter (HBA)s on a Fibre Transport Media Server (FTMS) may cause a system crash

Problem

When a Fibre Transport Media Server ( FTMS) is used in conjunction with a Emulex branded 16GB Host Bus Adapter (HBA) cards that are configured for Fibre Transport Target Mode operation.

If the configured NetBackup Media Server also has the physical presence of a 4GB Host Bus Adapter (HBA), it can lead to a system kernel crash, even if the 4GB Host Bus Adapter (HBA) is not actively used for NetBackup Fibre Transport Media Server (FTMS) operation.

Cause

With the presence of 4Gb Host Bus Adapter (HBA) it can contribute to a en eventful system crash on Red Hat 7.9 platforms. during the add or removal process as the default driver is unloaded.

Solution

Before starting implementation of Fibre Transport feature, ensure that NetBackup Media Server has no 4Gb Host Bus Adapter (HBAs) and either the card is physically removed, or the assigned ports are physically disconnected from the Storage Area Network (SAN).

You can choose one of the options below:

Option 1: Physically detach all Fibre Optics Cables that are connected from the 4Gb HBAs ports on Fibre Transport Media Server ( FTMS)

Option 2: Unconfigure all active zones, and zones sets that are associated to the WWN / WWPN 4GB ports, ensuring they assigned ports are decommissioned from the active Switch configuration and name service database is updated.
