Unable to archive or retrieve items while events 2190, 3436, and 3419 are being generated

Problem

Unable to archive or retrieve items while events 2190, 3436, and 3419 are being generated. The Enterprise Vault server requires a reboot.

Error Message

- Event ID: 3419 Could not access Exchange Server. The dispenser will queue the current item and sleep for 60 seconds

- Event ID: 2190 The class should be initialized before calling this function CArchivingAgent::ProcessUserEx

- Event ID: 3436 The task was unable to connect to Exchange Server. |Error: The server is not operational.  ( 0x8007203a) |

A DTrace of the relevant task i.e., ArchiveTask, JournalTask or PublicFolderTask may report the following error:

- {FindExchServerDn:#932} Error: [0x8007203a]


 

Cause

By default, Enterprise Vault automatically determines which global catalog server to use. In this instance the journal task binded to an old global catalog server in the forest which is not being replicated to, hence the task was unable to find the Exchange Server object in the directory.

Solution

Override automatic lookup of the global catalog server, check Use specific Global Catalog server under domain properties via the Enterprise Vault Administration Console:

1. Right-Click domain
2. Left-Click 'Properties'
3. Check 'Use specific Global Catalog server' and enter the required server:
