Problem

GRT selections for Active Directory are not available for restore operations due to the following exception that occurs during the backup:

Error Message

v-79-57344-38747 Backup Exec was unable to prepare Microsoft Active Directory resources for Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) operations. Therefore, you will be unable to perform GRT-enabled restores of Microsoft Active Directory data from this backup.

Solution

To resolve this issue, do one of the following:

  • If the Backup Exec Agent for Applications and Databases is not installed or if GRT selections for Active Directory are not required, then this error message can be ignored.
  • Turning off Application GRT for Active Directory for the virtual resource will prevent the error (exception) from being generated.
  • If you need GRT selections for the resource generating the error, make sure that a valid license for the Backup Exec Agent for Applications and Databases has been installed. If a license is present, check the Event Viewer of both machines for additional errors that may indicate what is causing the GRT failure.
  • The Active Directory Application Server and the Backup Exec server performing the GRT backup must have compatible versions of Microsoft Windows.  For more information, see the following URL:

For example, Backup Exec Beremote Debug Log
“LoadLibraryEx failed for E:\BEData\IMG000012\IMG000002\Backup Exec\IMG9\esent.dll. 0x7e, The specified module could not be found.”
  • As a workaround, a Remote Agent backup can be performed of the resource instead. This will allow the granular restore of individual items.
