About the Enterprise Vault Management Shell

The Enterprise Vault Management Shell is built on Windows PowerShell technology and provides a powerful command-line interface that enables automation of administrative tasks. You can use the Enterprise Vault Management Shell to manage many aspects of Enterprise Vault. When you open the Enterprise Vault Management Shell, it creates a PowerShell session for you to use and automatically loads the Enterprise Vault snap-ins. These snap-ins make available all the Enterprise Vault cmdlets that this guide describes, together with the native PowerShell cmdlets.

Note the following:

  • In earlier versions of Enterprise Vault, you needed to import certain modules to use PowerShell cmdlets that the Enterprise Vault Management Shell did not automatically load. This is not the case in Enterprise Vault 12.3 and later, where all the Enterprise Vault PowerShell cmdlets are immediately available in the Management Shell.

  • If you install Enterprise Vault in a folder other than the default folder (typically, C:\Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault), you may see the following prompt when you open the Enterprise Vault Management Shell:

Do you want to run software from this untrusted publisher?

To stop the prompt from reappearing, type A (for Always run). This option installs a code signing certificate that lets you load and run all the Enterprise Vault PowerShell cmdlets on the system.
