Problem

GRT restore of Hyper-V virtual machine does not display some of the volumes available for restore selection.

Error Message

Backups of Hyper-V VM with GRT complete with success and not specific error is displayed.

When attempting the restore from these backup sets some of the volumes may not show in the restore view. For eg:- If the virtual machine has C: and D: drives the restore view may show only C:

SGMON debug for the tape backup shows the following error

Cause

This is caused if the last folder during the backup of the C: drive is Windows.old folder. This causes the catalog job to skip cataloging of the next drive.

Solution

Workaround:

Create a new empty folder namely Y or Z on the C: of the VM and then run a new GRT backup to tape. The restore view should show both C: and D: drives.

A supported hotfix has been made available for this issue. Please contact  Technical Support to obtain this fix. This hotfix has not yet gone through any extensive Q&A testing. Consequently, if you are not adversely affected by this problem and have a satisfactory temporary workaround in place, we recommend that you wait for the public release of this hotfix.

The Product Engineering Team currently plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix to the current version of the software.
