Description

The default logic used within Compliance Accelerator / Veritas Advanced Supervision (CA/VAS) on-premises searches between the Subject and Content fields is the logical OR operation.  There are times when this logic needs to be changed to the logical AND operation. This article provides the steps needed to make this change.

NOTES:

  1. This change will affect all new searches in all Departments and Research Folders after the change is implemented. This includes new runs of existing scheduled searches.
  2. Double clicking on searches created prior to the configuration change to view the criteria of those prior searches will display the AND operator instead of the OR operator under which the searches were actually run.
  3. This configuration setting is only available in CA/VAS.  Discovery Accelerator (DA) does not need this option so it is not a listed configuration setting.
  4. This configuration setting is present in all currently supported versions of CA/VAS.

The steps needed to change the default logic between the Subject and Content fields from OR to AND are:

  1. Launch the CA Client using an account with the Application level permission Modify System Configuration.  This permission is part of the Compliance System Admin role.  Anyone with this role will be able to perform the next actions.  The Vault Service Account (VSA) has this permission by default.
  2. Click on the Configuration tab.
  3. Click on the Settings sub-tab.
  4. Expand the Search folder.
  5. Locate the option Combine subject and content fields with OR.  By default, the Value column for this option has a check box that has a check mark present.
  6. Remove the check mark from the Value column of this option.
  7. Click the Save button.
  8. Click the OK button in the pop-up dialog box that will state a restart of the Customer Background Tasks is required for this change to become effective.
  9. Close the CA Client.
  10. Log onto the CA server as the VSA.
  11. Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge to the following URL:  http://localhost/EVBAAdmin

  12. When the EVBAAdmin site is displayed, expand the CA server folder in the left panel.
  13. Click on the CA Customer's name in the left panel to see the customer's properties appear in the right panel.
  14. Right click on the CA Customer's name to see a list of options appear.
  15. Select the option Customer's Background tasks.
  16. Watch the Customer's tasks: field in the right panel as it changes from Running to Stopping to Stopped.  Note that some systems may be fast enough to where the Stopping status is displayed.  This is not a concern.
  17. Once the status is Stopped, right click on the CA Customer's name in the left panel again to see the list of options appear once more.
  18. Select the option Customer's Background tasks again.
  19. Watch the Customer's tasks: field in the right panel as it changes from Stopped to Starting to Running.  Note that some systems may be fast enough to where the Starting status is displayed.  This is not a concern.
  20. Close the web browser and log off of the CA server.

Any new searches created upon completion of the above steps will use the logical AND operation between the Subject and Content fields.
