ElasticSearch index repository snapshot failses when the snapshot process takes longer than 24 hours to complete.
Large ElasticSearch Index Snapshot fails to complete and times out in Enterprise Vault 14.2 and higher.
Below error is logged in dtrace:
Event ID: 41687 Failed to create the index snapshot in the index snapshot repository 'a59b29c8-4037-40ac-ac01-e27efd4826dc' on the Enterprise Vault index server '1F98BD36953BB1240A8244EDDC47F12A01410000EV01' due to the error 'Elasticsearch 'Snapshot.Create' API failed due to error 'Maximum timeout reached while retrying request. Call: Status code unknown from: PUT /_snapshot/a59b29c8-4037-40ac-ac01-e27efd4826dc/bd59dcfe-7020-446b-a7f3-9323cddbca87?wait_for_completion=true'.'.
This issue occurs due to the fact that the elastic search index snapshot process has a hardcoded timeout setting of 24 hours.
Veritas has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue is present in the version(s) of the product(s) referenced in this article.
This issue is currently under investigation by Veritas. Pending the outcome of the investigation, this issue may be resolved by way of a cumulative hotfix or service pack in the current or future versions of the software. However, this particular issue is not currently scheduled for any release.
