Description

This article will walk through the process of creating a Deletion Policy to delete data from your Veritas Alta SaaS Protection (ASP) tenant.
  1. Deletion policies define which content should be permanently and irreversibly deleted from the ASP tenant. It is best to run deletion policies in 'Preview' mode initially to ensure you fully understand the scope of data that will be deleted.
  2. Deletion policies are not able to delete any items that have legal hold, WORM retention periods, or that have Tags that include the 'Prevent Deletion' Tab Behavior.
  3. Please note that Veritas Technical Support can NOT create Deletion Policies. Such Polices MUST be created by the customer. Veritas representatives can provided guidance if needed but cannot create Deletion Policies. It is also strongly recommended to run Deletion Policies in Preview Mode before enabling Production Mode.

To create a Deletion Policy follow these steps:

  1. In the Admin Portal select Retention, then Deletion Policies.

  2. Select New Policy, then enter a Policy Name.

  3. Deletion policies exist at the Stor level.  Select a Stor in the drop-down to which the deletion policy will be applied.

  4. Determine if it will run in Preview or Production mode, and whether or not it is enabled.  It's recommended to configure policies in Preview mode first. This allows your policies to run, gather statistics, and provide visibility (via the Policies dashboard) in a risk-free way of seeing what impact the policy will have before being run in Production mode.  The status of the policy can be changed at any time between Preview / Production, or Enabled / Disabled.

  5. Specify what data will be deleted in the policy by adding criteria filters.  Select Add a Filter and click on a metadata type from the dropdown list.  More than one criteria can be added, if needed.

  6. Review all settings in the deletion policy and make the necessary adjustments.  Select Create when done.

Additional Information

The deletion policy will be executed according to the policy evaluation interval that is configured in your ASP environment. The default is every 15 mins.
