Description

Within the Cohesity End User Portal, there is an option to restore mailbox data.  This is accomplished by using the ' Restore' option.

Note: For the end user to have the restore option available in the End User Portal, they need to have the ' End-User Portal Export' permission enabled from the Admin Portal.

While in the End-User Portal, simply select the email to be restored and click on the ' Restore' option.

This will open the Restore window and provide various restore options.

  • The 'Restore Type' should select the correct type be default (e.g., Email, File folder, OneDrive, etc.)
  • The 'Destination' will show the export location for the given restore type.  If there are no destination locations to choose from, this means the option has not been configured by the IT administrator and therefore cannot be used.
  • The email address for the logged in user will show in the 'Send notification to' box by default.  This is optional.  If entered, an email containing a link will be sent that will take you directly to the exported content when the restore job has been completed.
  • The 'Mailbox SMTP' address will show the end users email address by default, but an alternate address can be used.
  • Select 'User mailbox'.
  • The 'Folder path' defaults to the folder in which the message(s) was selected from. However, clicking the 'Browse' button allows for choosing an alternate folder or creating a new folder.
  • Suppress duplicates (best effort) -- Should be left enabled
  • Only restore regular sent messages -- This option should be disabled when exporting Calendar appointments.
  • Suppress unsupported item classes -- This option is enabled by default and disabling it may result in unexpected behavior for some restored items with unsupported item classes.

Once all options have been configured, click the ' Restore' button and wait for the item to be restored.

Notes related to Shared Mailboxes:

Currently, restoring shared mailbox data to its original location is not supported from End-User portal.

Workarounds that require an Cohesity Alta SaaS Protection administrator's assistance.

  1. Use the Export Utility(End User Mode) to restore the shared mailbox to its original location.
  2. Customer also has an option to restore the shared mailbox to file system (File Folder Restore) from the End-User portal.
