Problem

Installation of System Recovery for Linux Edition fails with when the Red Hat kernel version is updated.

Error Message

Kernel (4.XX.X-XXX.XX.XX.el8_X.x86_64) is not supported.

Solution

When System Recovery supports the original kernel version before the kernel version is updated, please install System Recovery with the following steps.

1. Run the below command.

    rpm -qa | grep genisoimage

        NOTE:
        Check if genisoimage-X.X.XX-XX.el8_X.x86_64 is found.
If it is not found, run "yum install genisoimage". "genisoimage" component is needed in order to install createSRD.

2. Run the below command to copy System_Recovery_XX.X.X_XXXXX_Linux_Edition.tar.gz to /root.

    cp System_Recovery_XX.X.X_XXXXX_Linux_Edition.tar.gz /root

3. Run the below command to unzip System_Recovery_XX.X.X_XXXXX_Linux_Edition.tar.gz.

    cd /root
    tar xvf System_Recovery_XX.X.X_XXXXX_Linux_Edition.tar.gz

4. Run the below commands.

    mkdir /vsrl
    cd /root
    ./Veritas_System_Recovery.bin --noexec --keep --target /vsrl
    cd /vsrl
    rpm -ivh /vsrl/SymSnap/RHELX.X/symbdsnap-XX.X.X-XXXXX.x86_64.rpm

NOTE: If the original kernel version is Red Hat 8.2, RHELX.X is RHEL8.2.

    rpm -ivh symsr-XX.X.X-XXXXX.x86_64.rpm
    rpm -ivh symsr-createSRD-XX.X.X-XXXXX.x86_64.rpm
    rpm -ivh symmount-XX.X.X-XXXXX.x86_64.rpm

5. Run the below command to confirm whether the System Recovery version and license are displayed.

Warning: Application license will expire on.
