Product(s): Backup Exec

Problem

'Push install' or 'Response file based install' of RALUS agent on newer Linux platforms hangs or fails due to 'rsh' not being supported.

Error Message

Cause

On newer Linux platforms like Red Hat Linux 8, Oracle Linux 8, CentOS 8 and SLES 15 systems, 'rsh' (remote shell) is not supported and removed. The backup Exec installer uses rsh to push install Linux agents and gets the completion confirmation results via rsh. In the absence of rsh, installation commands do not return any appropriate values, resulting in a hung or failed push install.

Solution

Workaround:

If "Push Install" hangs then press Ctrl+C to close it and run a local installation for Remote Agent for Linux on newer Linux platforms.
