Description

This article illustrates options for data extractions and what a user can expect when they receive extracted data.

Please note the words Extraction and Export are both frequently used and are interchangeable for the context of this topic.

By default, all data extractions are performed on a per-user basis (by email address), hence the data is broken out by user. Arctera can extract ALL users or from a list of users provided. If needed, Arctera can extract based on a specific date range. However, there are no other special parameters that can be included; such as tags, to/from, or keywords. A single instance (not by user and deduplicated) extraction option is available ONLY upon request.

Extractions can be created in either PST or EML formats.

PST format:

·         Each PST will contain up to 20K emails and then rollover to the next file.

·         Each PST will be stored in a password protected compressed zip file.

·         The file names will be named after the username of the mailbox. (I.E. username@domain.com_1.pst,  username@domain.com_2.pst, etc.)

EML format:

·         EML files will be contained in a .zip file up to 20K emails each and then rollover to the next file.

·         EML files will be stored in a password protected compressed zip file.

·         EML file names will be named after the username of the mailbox. (I.E. username@domain.com_1.zip,  username@domain.com_2.zip, etc.)

Veritas also offers the option to include the envelope message which contains BCC information.  It is important to note the following when choosing this option:

The output of the emails will contain the Envelope message which means in order to see the original email, the attachment must be opened.  Below is an example:

Please consider this while deciding to include/exclude the envelope email. The purpose of the extracted data should dictate the need for envelopes in any specific situation.

For inquiries regarding extractions, please send an email to: cloud.dm@arctera.io which will automatically open a case for the Arctera Insight Archiving Data Management team.
