Problem

NetBackup 8.0 Bare Metal Restore (BMR) of RHEL, CentOS, OEL 6.x client fails to restore when NBAC is enabled in REQUIRED mode on master, media, and client.

Boot from the ISO failed

Error Message

Messages similar to the following are displayed on BMR client during restore:
Issuing bpnbat -login -logintype AT command…
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpnbat: error while loading shared libraries: libz.so.1
: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Cause

During Bare Metal Restore, NetBackup tries to login through bpnbat process when NBAC is configured. Process bpnbat has dependency on the libz.so.1 library. Hence, if the library libz.so.1 does not exist in SRT at the time of restore, then BMR restore fails.

Solution

Veritas Technologies LLC has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue (ETrack 3925098) is present in NetBackup 8.0.

Workaround:
This workaround involves replacing a configuration file that is used to create SRTs, this file resides on the BMR Boot Server.

  1. Make a copy of the original createsrt.conf file on the BMR Boot Server (/usr/openv/var/global/createsrt.conf)
  2. Copy the createsrt.conf file found in the Attachments section below
  3. Move the createsrt.conf file to the above mentioned location
  4. Re-create the SRT
  5. Use this SRT for required BMR activities.
