How to restore an old case to new version of Clearwell

Problem

A case backup that was created on an appliance with an earlier version of eDiscovery, needs to be restored to an appliance running a newer version of eDiscovery.

Solution

The eDiscovery  product is designed to be backward compatible; cases created in previous versions are usually forward upgradeable to more recent versions.  

Sometimes, however, a case backup cannot be restored to the target eDiscovery appliance because the target appliance does not yet include the necessary upgrade scripts to allow the restore of that particular case backup version. This can happen when the case backup was created on an earlier eDiscovery product but with a product patch level that was released after the release of the target eDiscovery product patch level.  In a situation like this, the restore of case backup is likely to fail with the following error:
