Problem

How to configure Windows client firewall to allow access for Netbackup processes.

Solution

First, verify the Windows firewall is preventing access to the client server NetBackup processes. If possible, (as a test) temporarily disable the MS firewall and then try to connect to the client server using the master server host properties.  To disable the MS firewall, bring up the client services by right clicking on "My Computer" and then "Manage". Then, go to the Windows firewall service.

Stop the service by right clicking on the firewall service and select "Stop"

If this is successful, then the point of failure is due to firewall.

To make exceptions for NetBackup processes, start the Windows Security center by going to RUN>START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>SECURITY CENTER>

In the Exceptions tab, add exceptions for BPCD and VNETD.

Use the Add Program tab to browse for the BPCD and VNETD processes.

Using the Add Port tab, add both the BPCD and VNETD TCP ports 13724 and 13782.

Re enable the Windows firewall service.

Try now to access to client host properties from the master server.  Then, run a test backup and restore.
