Problem

NetBackup for VMware Agent: FlashBackup for Windows Policy: Snapshot could not be created with VMware method

Solution

Whileattempting to save a NetBackup for VMware policy of type FlashBackup forWindows a window pops up with the following message:

Policy:<policy_name> Validation Failed
Policyvalidation checks for the advanced client configurationfailed.
Advancedclient backups cannot be performed until configuredcorrectly.
Policy:<policy_name> -- client: <client_name> --
Snapshot could no be created with VMware method

One knowncause for the above message is the client specified in <client_name> isnot able to be resolved from the system where the NetBackup AdministrationConsole is being launched.  For example, if the NetBackup AdministrationConsole is being launched from a remote PC, this can be due to that remote PCnot being able to resolve the client name.
To verifythis issue, add the client name in question (as it appears in the<client_name> field above) to a local hosts file on the system running theNetBackup Administration Console.  If that resolves the issue take one ofthe following actions:
1.  Addall of the affected clients to a local hosts file.
2.  Launchthe NetBackup Administration Console from a different system where nameresolution is not an issue. For example from the VMware Proxy Server, as theproxy server should already be able to perform forward and reverse nameresolutions of all virtual machines being backed up in this policy.
3.  UpdateDomain Name Service (DNS) with both forward and reverse lookup zones for theaffected clients.
Note:  Inthis case, these are client names of VMware Virtual Machines that are going tobe backed up using the NetBackup for VMware Agent using VMware ConsolidatedBackup (VCB) snapshot.  These clients do not have to be reachable on thenetwork, only resolvable.
