Problem

Veritas File System reports the warning message "mesg 014: V-2-14: vx_iget - inode table overflow"

Error Message

"mesg 014: V-2-14: vx_iget - inode table overflow"

Solution

This is a warning message that occurs when Veritas FileSystem (VxFS) wants to use more buffer space for file system inodes than is currently available.  The message normally doesn't appear because VxFS automatically tunes the amount of space allocated for inodes during boot based on the amount of memory on the system.  Usually, the amount allocated during auto-tuning is sufficient for inode requests.  However, if the user has tuned VxFS rather than allowing VxFS to auto tune itself, or if there is an abnormally large number of requests for inodes, this error can appear.  Check if the /etc/vx/vxfssystem exists and if it contains an entry for "vxfs_ninode".  If it does, try deleting the "vxfs_ninode" from the file and rebooting to see if the messages persist.  If the messages persist, increase the number of inodes allowed by increasing the value of"vxfs_ninode" in the /etc/vx/vxfssystem file.
