The Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS-Admin log could show event 10103 with following content:
The virtual machine 'X' cannot be hot backed up since it has no SCSI controllers attached. Please add one or more SCSI controllers to the virtual machine before performing a backup. (Virtual machine ID <GUID>).
Cause
Hyper-V 2012 needs a SCSI Controller inside the virtual machine to be able to perform Online Backups of this Guest OS
Solution
A SCSI Controller needs to be added to the virtual machine. After the SCSI Controller is added to the Machine, the Online Backup will work fine.
