Error V-76-58628-3 Failed to write the disk signature.

Error when attempting to use diskpart:
Virtual Disk Service error: The service failed to initialize.
VDS fails to retrieve class id for provider {A86AE501-EF73-4C8D-827E-98BA5046B05F}. Error code: 2@02000009

Error when trying to open Windows Disk Management:
Unable to connect to Virtual Disk Service.

Cause

{A86AE501-EF73-4C8D-827E-98BA5046B05F} is a Microsoft Software provider for Dynamic disk which is replaced by Veritas software provider. If user account used during InfoScale installation doesn't have proper permission, then sometimes {A86AE501-EF73-4C8D-827E-98BA5046B05F} registry key is not completely removed from the server.

{A86AE501-EF73-4C8D-827E-98BA5046B05F} key is empty (no contents) which causes trouble with InfoScale, VDS, and other disk management applications on the server.

The VDS fails to retrieve a class ID for provider: {A86AE501-EF73-4C8D-827E-98BA5046B05F} and does not correctly populate the corresponding key in the Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\vds\SoftwareProviders\{A86AE501-EF73-4C8D-827E-98BA5046B05F}

Solution

  1. Open Registry Editor
  2. Backup HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\vds\SoftwareProviders\{A86AE501-EF73-4C8D-827E-98BA5046B05F} registry key
  3. Delete {A86AE501-EF73-4C8D-827E-98BA5046B05F}
    1. If you get "Cannot delete key:Error while deleting key"
      1. Right-click the key --> Permissions --> Advanced --> Owner --> Change select Local Administrators group --> Apply
      2. Grant Full Control to "System" and "Administrators" groups
      3. Delete key
  4. Restart the Virtual Disk service
