Problem

Error Message

UMI: V-79-10000-11223

UMI Code: V-379-34113

Cause

This could occur due to any or all of the following problems:

1.    VSS writer failures.

2.    Microsoft Shadow Copy Provider service and Volume Shadow Copy service unable to start/stop.

3.    Problem on the drive when creating a shadow copy.

4.    A disk with a size greater than 63 terabytes may exist on the computer.

Solution

1.    Check the writers status on which the job fails:

In the command prompt run “vssadmin list writers” (without quotes).

When there is no job running on the server the State for all the writers should be "Stable" and "No Errors".

2.    Check the Microsoft Shadow copy Provider service and volume Shadow Copy service.

Startup mode : Manual.

Status : Stopped (when there is no job running on the server).

3.    Check the properties of the drive (partitions on the disk)

 In Windows Explorer, right-click on a drive ( e.g. C:\ or D:\ ) > Properties > Shadow Copies

4. For error 0x80042304 on any of the drives repair/reregister the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service - consult Microsoft documentation.

5. Ensure that you are not trying to snap a disk with a size greater than 63 terabytes. These types of disks can cause VSS to stop unexpectedly when it creates snapshots.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, please contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.
