Some characters in backup/restore log for MS-Windows policy are garbled after applying Japanese Language pack 10.5 and later.

Problem

On Windows platform, some characters in backup/restore log for MS-Windows policy are garbled in Java administrator console, Java remote Administration console and WebUI after applying Japanese Language pack 10.5 and later.

Error Message

The following are sample images of the garbled log.

Cause

Encoding in JRE is changed from NetBackup 10.5. 
 

Solution

The following workaround is available for WebUI.

1. Open setenv.bat and add the option -Dfile.encoding=COMPAT at the end of JAVA_OPTS line. 

   <install directory>\NetBackup\wmc\webserver\bin\setenv.bat

2. Restart "NetBackup Web Management Console" service.

- Open Services in Windows and manually restart the "NetBackup Web Management Console" service

For Java Administration console and Java remote Administration console, EEB is available.
