Getting "Application connection error failed for <HOSTNAME>\. Please select a different SQL Server host and instance or modify your login parameters" when setting up the database management system login parameter

Problem

Getting "Application connection error failed for \. Please select a different SQL Server host and instance or modify your login parameters" when setting up the database management system login parameter.

Solution

After entering the correct credentials in the Set Database Login Parameters dialog, the following error message will be displayed as soon as you click the Apply button.

The following lines will also show up in the dbclient log:

The above errors indicate that NetBackup has issues connecting to the registry information.
Check the Windows Remote Registry Service and make sure it is installed and running on the SQL Server.
