V-79-57344-38724 - A GRT backup of a Dynamic Disk thru the VMware agent fails with "Directory does not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT)."

Problem

A Granular Restore Technology (GRT) backup thru the VMware agent (AVVI) of a Windows dynamic disk fails with "V-79-57344-38724 - Directory does not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT).  Granular restores cannot be performed for items in this directory".

Cause

Granular Restore Technology (GRT) backups using the VMWare Virtual Infrastructure Agent (AVVI) to a dynamic disk is not supported at this time. 

Solution

Workaround:

If File or Application level GRT is required, backup the volume using the Remote Agent for Windows (RAWS) by selecting the guest directly (not through the VCenter or ESX server).

If File and Application level restore is not required, turn off File and Application GRT for the backup.
