After installing Veritas System Recovery, there is a Device Manager error for Generic Mount Control Device
Problem
After installing Veritas System Recovery, there is a Device Manager error (yellow splat) for Generic Mount Control Device.
Error
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.
Cause
After upgrading System Recovery, unnecessary "Generic Mount Control Device" entries that have the exclamation mark may be added.
Or
The Generic Mount device driver was not properly detected.
Solution
If multiple "Generic Mount Control Device" entries are found and one of them does not have an exclamation mark, keep the "Generic Mount Control Device" entry that does not have the exclamation mark and delete "Generic Mount Control Device" entries that have the exclamation mark.
If only one "Generic Mount Control Device" entry that has an exclamation mark is found, perform below.
Drivers loaded are:
\windows\system32\drivers\genericmount.sys
The driver for the Generic Mount device can be found in:
64-bit system: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\genericmount.inf_amd64_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\
32-bit system:
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\genericmount.inf_xxxxxxxx\
NOTE: The number at the end of the folder name may vary.
Right-click on the GenericMount.inf in the appropriate location and select "Install" to install it.
Alternatively, the above driver can be browsed for from Device Manager by clicking on "Update Driver" and then browsing to one of the above locations depending on the operating system in use.
