Problem

This issue can be reproduced using two, different, methods:

Method A

  1. Double-click on an archived email.
  2. From the Action menu, select Edit message.
  3. Add some text to the email.
  4. Save and close.
A pop-up message will appear, stating "The body of the message <subject> has been changed, do you want to save changes to this message?"
  • If you click NO, then the changes will be discarded.
  • If you click on YES, then the Enterprise Vault pop-up appears.

Method B

  1. Double-click on an archived email.
  2. From the More menu, select Forward as attachment.
  3. Send an email.
  4. Close.

In the above two conditions, the Enterprise Vault popup says "This item is archived and cannot be edited, to save your changes you must make a copy of the item. Click YES if you wish to save a copy in the INBOX, or click on NO to select a different folder". If you click on YES, then the modified content is saved in the same folder.

When we click on NO, then Cancel, the Enterprise Vault add-in may save the duplicate email instead of discarding the changes.

Solution

This issue has been resolved in the Enterprise Vault 12.1 Outlook add-ins.

Now when the NO button is selected a folder picker will appear allowing the user to choose a folder other than the Inbox.

This release is generally available.

In Enterprise Vault 12.5.3, 14.0.1, and 14.1 the behavior has been changed as follows:

To overcome the issue being faced by the Outlook user, instead of the existing YES-NO button options being displayed on the EV dialog box, we’ll provide the YES-NO-CANCEL buttons option to allow the user to cancel-off the save operation. When the end user selects the CANCEL button, it is a clear indication to EV that end user doesn’t wish to persists the modification made to the retrieved item.
