Problem

While troubleshooting different issues like, "genauthstring unable register by impersonated user" or issues in restarting the Enterprise Vault Admin Service, reinstallation of the Enterprise Vault binaries could be necessary

Solution

The following would be the steps to perform while reinstalling the binaries of Enterprise Vault:

1. Stop all Enterprise Vault Services.

2. Open Internet Information Services Manager (IIS) on the Enterprise Vault Server.

3. Expand Server -> Sites -> Default Web Site.

Note: Make sure there is a backup of the IIS and a backup of the settings of this Virtual Directory. If there were some changes made to this Virtual Directory, they would be overwritten by the reinstallation of the binaries.

4. Right-click and click delete the EnterpriseVault Virtual Directories (such as EnterpriseVault, EnterpriseVaultAPI..)

NOTE 1: Do not delete any other virtual directories or application pools as doing so will damage the Enterprise Vault installation.

NOTE 2: Since EV 12.4 There is no Application Pool named EVIndexingPool in EV 12.4 and later instead, you will see a shortcut folder named "EVIndexing" under the same location of Virtual Directories. Remove the shortcut folder.

5. Run Setup.exe from the Enterprise Vault installation media (use the same version currently in use, install media: Veritas Enterprise Vault\Server\x64\setup (x64).exe).

Note: If completely uninstalling an EV version that has a Product Update installed, the installation process must have the base version installed first and then the Product Update may be installed. For example, when working with EV 14.1.3, install 14.1.0 and then 14.1.3.

6. Select the Enterprise Vault Services option. Proceed with the wizard.

NOTE: Since EV 12.4 it will be asked either Modify | Repair | Remove, choose 'Repair' and proceed with the wizard

7. Start all Enterprise Vault Services after the completion of the installation (in some case it might require a server restart, the DLL registration will continue after the restart).

After Step No. 7, DO NOT proceed with running the Enterprise Vault Configuration Wizard.
